Quick Start Guide
Set up, map, preview and run your import inside WordPress with Super Speedy Imports. The visual mapper shows your source fields and sample values beside the destinations. Ordinary imports don’t require PHP, SQL or a terminal.
This guide covers posts and, with Pro, custom post types. For products, follow the WooCommerce Imports Quick Start Guide.
Choose your source
For CSV, use a file with column names in its first row. Choose the separator that matches your file, such as a comma, tab or semicolon, and check the decimal separator for prices and other numbers.
For XML in Pro, open Super Speedy Imports > Migration Tools. Upload the XML there and enter a record path if detection needs help. Click Convert XML, then open New Import and select the generated CSV. SSI converts the XML internally into this working file for the same visual mapper. The XML remains the source. You don’t need an external converter. The ordinary CSV upload control is for CSV files.
XML and WP All Import migration are available since 2.87; the public Lite 2.84 download does not include them.
If you’re moving a saved WP All Import job, start with Migrating from WP All Import. SSI brings your saved configurations, mappings and update settings into its visual interface.
Create the import
- Open Super Speedy > Super Speedy Imports in wp-admin.
- Upload or select your CSV in the import creation area. For XML, use Migration Tools as described above.
- Give the import a name and check the suggested import type and file settings.
- Create the import and open its configuration.
SSI’s auto-classifier uses column names and sample data to suggest mappings. Review the suggested mappings and sample values beside each field.
Check matching before importing
Choose a stable identifier for each record, such as a product SKU or a supplier ID. The matching settings determine whether another run updates a record or creates a new one. Pro supports custom matching; Lite uses its preset matching choices.
Read Choosing your unique identifier if you’re unsure which value to use. Don’t use a field that changes each time the supplier sends a file.
Review the visual mappings
The mapping screen has destination fields on the left and source fields with sample values in Import Fields on the right.
- Accept a correct suggestion, dismiss it or choose the destination yourself.
- Drag a source field onto its destination, or use the field picker.
- Step through sample rows to check titles, prices and other values.
- Map only the fields your import should write. Ignore columns you don’t need.
- Use a fixed value or combine source values with text where needed. Pro also supports custom PHP transformations for advanced cases.
For posts, begin with title, content and excerpt. For products, begin with title, SKU and price. The mapping screen walkthrough explains the controls in detail.
Add taxonomies and custom fields when needed
Map categories, tags and other taxonomies to their source columns. Register the taxonomy itself first if it isn’t available; the import can create its terms. For WooCommerce attributes, use Products > Attributes.
A hierarchy such as Clothing > T-Shirts creates the category path. Check Assign every category level (not just the deepest) to choose whether records belong to every level or just the leaf. See Mapping hierarchical and multi-path taxonomies for multiple paths and separators.
Pro can map custom postmeta and supported ACF/SCF fields. You don’t need to add custom fields for data covered by the template’s ordinary fields.
Preview the first item
Save the configuration and use Preview first item. SSI creates a separate draft of the first complete item, including related data needed for the preview. Open its review links and check the mapped values and presentation. Discard the preview when you’ve finished reviewing it.
A draft preview writes draft content. It doesn’t run the whole file, validate every row or show an exact before-and-after comparison of updates to live records.
Run in WordPress
Use the import’s Preview & Run controls to review the run settings and start the browser import. Keep the tab open as instructed by the screen. Follow progress and elapsed time, then inspect the completion result, reported issues and imported records.
For regular updates, reuse the saved configuration and check that the source columns and matching values are consistent. Pro includes scheduling. WP-CLI is an optional execution path for server-managed jobs; it isn’t a prerequisite for the visual workflow.
Review or remove imported records
Check a few resulting records before relying on a new configuration. If you need to remove records associated with an import, use that import’s removal control and read the confirmation. It explains whether records go to Trash or are permanently deleted.
Removing associated records can affect records that the import updated as well as created. It doesn’t restore their earlier values. Deleting an import configuration is a separate operation. Read Trashed items and deletes before removing a catalogue.
